help to buy a home or rent from a private landlord
If you are considering buying your own home but cannot afford to do so outright, either because you cannot afford the full mortgage repayments or the deposit or both, then low cost home ownership may be an option for you.
Low cost home ownership is available to people registered with homes@kennet and properties are advertised on the website and in the Gazette and Herald.
The New Futures Partnership is an independent scheme which markets low cost home ownership including properties which are currently available in the Kennet area. For more information visit their website www.homebuy-southwest.co.uk or call their free phone advice line: 0800 073 1315.
Kennet District Council runs a scheme called Sure Let for people on low incomes who are registered with homes@kennet and who want to move to privately rented accommodation. We will give the landlord a written guarantee in place of a cash deposit, which will be equivalent to one month's rent. People who are at risk of becoming homeless may be able to get extra help to cover some of the other costs which landlords expect to be paid up front.
To be eligible for the SureLet your income should not exceed £15,750 gross per annum (single person), or £21,000 per annum (couple/family). You will need to have a clear rent account and show you have the ability to fund any purchase or rental agreement.
Please contact Natalie Jefferies at Kennet District Council (tel. 01380 724911 ext 658) for further information and to see if you are eligible for the scheme.
If you are on a low income, then you may be entitled to help with paying your rent - contact the Housing Benefit department for further information.
